News and energy conversation site, The Fuse, to cover energy production, oil consumption, energy geopolitics, advanced technology and alternative fuels, and policy developments. Live broadcast coverage from OPEC Seminar and Meeting in Vienna, June 3-5.

Washington, D.C. – Securing America’s Future Energy (SAFE) today launched a new online portal—The Fuse, www.energyfuse.org—which creates a go-to destination for high-level news, analysis and discussion on all aspects affecting U.S. energy security today.

This week, in conjunction with the 167th meeting of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), The Fuse will feature live online and broadcast coverage from Vienna, delivering first-hand reporting as well as social media and video accounts directly from the meeting. Fuse staff will also interview prominent attendees on OPEC’s role in today’s new oil market environment.

Launched amidst an unprecedented abundance of domestic oil and natural gas coupled with renewed global oil market volatility, The Fuse offers incisive and prescient analysis of how the evolving energy landscape impacts U.S. economy, geopolitics, domestic production and advanced technology. Updated daily with content from oil market and energy policy experts, as well as business and NGO leaders, The Fuse will serve as a centralized resource for written analysis, visual data, videos, and exclusive insights from high-profile guest contributors, some regulars in the energy world and some new to the issue and debate, on a wide variety of energy-related topics.

“When we look beyond today’s domestic oil and economic boom—recognizing the nature of the oil market, the growing global oil demand expected in future years as nations industrialize and citizens demand transportation options, and the changing nature of transportation technologies like self-driving cars—the situation we find ourselves today will be very different in the future,” said SAFE President and CEO Robbie Diamond. “It’s essential that we use this moment in time to have an informed debate about ways to maximize U.S. energy security over the next several years. We are launching The Fuse—an independent site—to provide the level of analysis and insight of today’s complex energy landscape that Americans need in order to make informed decisions about our future.”

The launch of The Fuse features content from guest contributors including but not limited to: David Steiner, President and CEO of Waste Management; Senator Heidi Heitkamp; Arun Majumdar, Stanford professor and Founding Director of the Advanced Research Projects Agency–Energy (ARPA-E); Carl Pope, former Executive Director of the Sierra Club; T. Boone Pickens, former oil industry magnate and current chairman of hedge fund BP Capital Management; and Greg Ballard, former U.S. Marine and current Mayor of the City of Indianapolis.

In addition to conventional articles and blog posts, The Fuse will feature the following content streams:

  • Data Spotlight: An infographic or other form of visual data explaining a critical energy security issue
  • Issues in Focus: A facts-only explainer section on a current or pending energy regulation
  • Energy Calendar: An embedded interactive calendar consolidating upcoming energy events, report releases, OPEC meetings, and other major conferences
  • Interviews: Regular Q&As with issue experts to draw deeper insight into topics of the day
  • Videos: Video interviews, explainers, webinars, and event footage
  • Election Tracker: A table of all current presidential candidates for the 2016 election, and their stance on various energy issues

About Securing America’s Future Energy (SAFE)
Securing America’s Future Energy (SAFE)
is a nonpartisan organization that aims to reduce America’s dependence on oil and improve U.S. energy security to bolster national security and strengthen the economy. SAFE advocates for expanded domestic production of U.S. oil and gas resources, continued improvements in fuel efficiency, and in the long-term, breaking oil’s stranglehold on the transportation sector through alternatives like natural gas for heavy-duty trucks and plug-in electric vehicles. In 2006, SAFE joined with General P.X. Kelley (Ret.), 28th Commandant of the U.S. Marine Corps, and Frederick W. Smith, Chairman, President, and CEO of FedEx Corporation, to form the Energy Security Leadership Council (ESLC), a group of business and former military leaders committed to reducing U.S. oil dependence.
